BREAKING: Senate suspends plenary to honour dead soldiers
The Senate yesterday adopted a report on the bill seeking to establish the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) University of Science and Technology, Abaji.
The report was presented by the chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND headed by Sen Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano), while the bill was sponsored by Senate Minority Whip Philip Aduda (PDP, FCT).
The report states that when established, the university will go a long way in catering for the technological needs of the FCT and its environs by providing quality education to the indigenous people and beyond.
Speaking to journalists after the adoption of the report, Aduda said all was set for the take off of the university as a land of over 500 hectares has been provided for the institution to commence in earnest.
He said apart from the land, classrooms and other necessary equipment were on ground to facilitate a smooth take off, adding that the Senate would ensure it sends the bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence.
The senator said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May this year approved the establishment of the university and that all that the FCT Administration now awaits is the signing of the bill into law to provide a legal backing for the institution.
