The Senate is set to consider a bill seeking the establishment of an endowment fund for Arts and Literature following a bill sponsored by Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District tagged National Endowment for Arts and Literature.
Our correspondent reports that the Bill passed through the first reading during a recent plenary. Giving an insight into the bill, Sani said the bill when passed would strengthen the arts and literary sectors in the country.
“This is a very good aspect of our nation that has been neglected. The endowment fund, when established will avail authors, artists and literary gurus, the opportunity to fund their works.
“The sole aim of the bill is to support new generation of Chinua Achebes and Wole Soyinkas in the country. Many young authors and artists possess the literary skills to excel in the world but their set back is funding and the bill addresses this,” he said.
