Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary), has commended the Federal Government’s recent allocation of N4.8 billion for HIV treatment in Nigeria.

This significant addition to the 2025 overall budget for Health demonstrates the government’s commitment to domestic financing and sustainability in the health sector.

In a statement signed by Abiye Alambo Briggs, Legislative Aide, the former Deputy Governor of Rivers State has been instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s health policies. She emphasized the importance of sustained efforts in combating HIV/AIDS, noting that this recent allocation is a significant step forward.

Under her leadership, the Senate Committee Chairman on Health has been instrumental in shaping the country’s health policies and advocating for increased funding.

According to the Harvard Trained Public Health Physician, ‘‘this recent allocation of N4.8 billion for HIV treatment is a significant development which underscores Nigeria’s determination to combat HIV and reduce mother to child transmission to the barest, prioritizing the health and well-being of our citizens.” Sen Dr. Banigo noted.

The lawmaker representing Rivers West Senatorial District, expressed her delight at this allocation, which will supplement partners’ contributions and demonstrate the government’s commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. This development underscores the nation’s determination to provide quality healthcare for all citizens.

“This allocation is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Nigeria, however, we must not rest on our laurels. We must continue to work tirelessly to ensure that this funding is utilized effectively and efficiently to provide quality healthcare services to those who need them most.”

Dr. Banigo also emphasized the need for increased awareness and education about HIV/AIDS, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
