As Nigeria marks two years since the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Bassey Eno, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has extended warm congratulations to both leaders for what he described as “remarkable strides in governance, reform, and people-focused development.”

Speaking to journalists in Uyo, Senator Bassey commended the duo for their visionary leadership, progressive policies, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerians at both federal and state levels. “In just two years, President Tinubu and Governor Eno have demonstrated what it means to lead with vision, compassion, and accountability. Their achievements are not just numbers, but real impacts in the lives of everyday citizens,” Senator Bassey stated.

He praised Governor Umo Eno for staying true to his campaign promise of driving rural transformation through his ARISE Agenda, which focuses on Agriculture, Rural Development, Infrastructure, Security, and Education.

According to the Senator, in just two years, the Eno-led administration has constructed or rehabilitated over 599 kilometers of rural and inter-local government roads, thereby opening up previously inaccessible areas, boosting commerce, and improving access to markets for farmers. The Governor has also established 17 model public schools equipped with digital classrooms, science laboratories, and improved teacher welfare packages.

In the healthcare sector, the Governor’s achievements include the creation and upgrade of 16 Primary Healthcare Centers, most of which now operate on solar power, ensuring continuous service delivery. Medical outreach programs have reached over 50,000 residents, offering free surgeries, immunizations, and specialist consultations. Under his agricultural development strategy, thousands of farmers have benefited from grants, inputs, training, and equipment support through the Dakkada Agricultural Scheme. In the area of youth empowerment, over ₦650 million has been disbursed to beneficiaries of the “One Youth One Skill” programme, enabling more than 1,000 young people to acquire skills and set up businesses. The state has also established SME support hubs and provided soft-loan schemes across the 31 local government areas. In terms of peace and security, Governor Eno has strengthened local vigilance networks, community policing, and reformed state security outfits, maintaining Akwa Ibom’s status as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

On the federal level, Senator Bassey applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking decisive steps to reposition the Nigerian economy and stabilize governance. He described President Tinubu as a reformer who has made tough but necessary decisions. Chief among the reforms is the removal of fuel subsidy, which has saved the country trillions of naira, and the unification of the exchange rate, which has boosted transparency in the financial system. These efforts have led to a 40% increase in foreign direct investment.

The Senator highlighted several ongoing infrastructure projects initiated under President Tinubu’s administration, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway. The administration has also completed the reconstruction of over 400 roads and bridges across the country. In the education sector, the introduction of a student loan scheme has benefited more than 500,000 tertiary students. Additional programs such as the Skill-Up Artisans Programme and the Nigeria Youth Academy are helping to build skilled labor in areas like ICT, mechanics, and vocational trades.

On agriculture and food security, President Tinubu’s government has distributed over one million bags of fertilizer to farmers and established mechanized farming clusters nationwide. A National Food Security Council has also been established to regulate pricing and support local food production. In the area of security, over ₦2.1 trillion has been allocated to boost defense and internal security. These efforts have led to a 25% reduction in reported incidents of banditry and kidnapping. The government has also invested in drone surveillance, better intelligence sharing, and improved equipment for security agencies. In the digital economy, initiatives such as the Digital Nigeria Programme are expanding internet access, supporting tech startups, and training young Nigerians in artificial intelligence and digital literacy. Nigeria now ranks among the top three African countries attracting venture capital for innovation and technology.

Senator Bassey used the opportunity to call for national unity and support for ongoing reforms. “This is not the time for division. The changes we are witnessing are historic, and we must protect and strengthen them. Let us give our leaders time, prayers, and collaboration to take Nigeria to greater heights,” he said. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting progressive legislation and initiatives that drive development across Akwa Ibom State and the entire country.
