Senator representing the area, Professor Ben Ayade said he wants to distribute the seeds so that he can through that, boost the status of farmers in his constituency.
Experts said the rice seeds have biotechnology capacity to boost rice yields when planted. The Senator in a statement sent to farmers in the area, stated that, “Central to the introduction of this rice is its potential to provide highest returns on investment to farmers.”
He stated that the seeds have high resistance to pests attack as well as high quality grain paddy and above all has the high yield per hectare, adding that the distribution of the seeds was part of his efforts towards “The making of the Green Millionaires Program” and that it was aimed at creating jobs for the teeming youths and parents.
He said he intends to use the program to see how farmers in the senatorial district could be made to become millionaires and enjoined farmers and potential farmers to take advantage of the invaluable opportunity and register their names for the program.
