Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader of rare conviction and unwavering moral strength whose life was wholly dedicated to service, sacrifice, and faith.

In a tribute released shortly after news of the former President’s death broke, Senator Musa eulogized Buhari as more than a political figure—calling him a statesman, patriot, and moral compass whose legacy will continue to guide Nigeria and inspire future generations of African leaders.

“With deep sorrow and a profoundly heavy heart, we mourn the passing of our former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who departed this life today at approximately 4:30pm in London,” the statement read.

According to Senator Musa, President Buhari embodied the ideals of integrity, courage, and modest leadership at a time when the nation needed clear moral direction. His life and career, from the military to the highest office in the land, were marked by personal discipline, unwavering patriotism, and an unshakeable sense of duty to Nigeria.

“President Buhari was not just a leader—he was a symbol of integrity, discipline, and unwavering courage in the face of adversity. A soldier, a statesman, and a patriot, he dedicated the entirety of his life to the service of our great nation with uncommon humility and resolute faith in God,” Senator Musa said.

He described the former President as a man whose convictions never wavered in the face of pressure or convenience. “In a world so often shaken by compromise, he stood firm—guided by conviction, not convenience; by principle, not popularity. His simplicity, personal restraint, and moral clarity left a lasting mark on Nigeria’s political and ethical landscape. He reminded us that leadership is not about self, but sacrifice,” the Senator added.

Reflecting on Buhari’s deep religious devotion and spiritual grounding, Senator Sani Musa noted that the late President bore the burdens of leadership with humility and a constant awareness of divine accountability.

“We take solace in the knowledge that he was a devout man of faith, who walked in the fear of God and carried the burdens of leadership with deep spiritual reflection. Indeed, ‘To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return’ (Qur’an 2:156),” the statement continued.

The Senator extended his heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, noting that while Nigeria has lost a father figure and Africa a voice of moral reason, humanity has gained the example of a man who lived not for applause, but for purpose.

“May the Almighty forgive his shortcomings, accept his return, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May his legacy of patriotism, personal integrity, and national service continue to inspire present and future generations,” Senator Musa prayed.

He concluded with a poignant reflection on Buhari’s enduring influence: “Nigeria has lost a father. Africa has lost a voice of reason. But we have all gained the enduring example of a man who lived not for the applause, but for purpose.”

Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

His passing marks the end of an era defined by principled leadership, national discipline, and a relentless pursuit of reform.
