The union’s scribe Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal said in a statement weekend that Nwafia was compulsorily retired by the Ebonyi State Government and later smuggled into the Federal Civil Service as a Director when most of his seniors were still Assistant Directors and Deputy Directors in the Federal Civil Service.
“As if that was not enough, Mr. Nwafia after spending just few months in the Federal Ministry of Labour as a Director was appointed the Secretary to the PCC, a post equivalent to that of a Permanent Secretary whereas the PCC has 17 substantive Directors who are by far senior to Mr. Nwafia who by normal standard practice should not have been considered for the position at all.
Lawal said the union held a meeting with the Chief Commissioner of the PCC on the matter, explaining the anomaly but not action has been taken to redress the situation.
He said union then declared a 21-day ultimatum for Nwafia to be removed as secretary or the PCC would “face a series of trade union actions” that had been lined up to tackle the situation.
Following the threat, the Ministry of Labour and Productivity intervened in line with the trade dispute resolutions processes but nothing has come out of three meetings by affected stakeholders.
