Alhaja Arinola, who stated this at the convocation of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), also lamented the rot in Nigerian education system.
She appealed to government at all levels to accord value to education and ensure that Nigerians receive quality education so as to stem the influx of Nigerians to foreign institutions.
The Ilorin-based, retired primary school teacher also appealed to parents not to neglect the training of their children especially females as education is the best legacy they could give to them.
“There was a time when Nigeria’s education attracted foreigners because we had standard and were committed to excellence. It’s sad to note that hardly would you see foreigners in Nigerian universities today. Our children are rushing to foreign countries at high financial, social and emotional costs.”
“Government should save our nation by funding education properly and monitoring the institutions. Since I arrived here (Malaysia) for my daughter’s convocation, I’ve seen so many Nigerians. Our bad education system forced them out. This is not Nigeria of our dream. Government and all stakeholders should help resurrect Nigeria,” she pleaded.
Meanwhile, nine Nigerians were awarded Doctor of Philosophy and several others Master of Science at the 27th convocation held at UUM, Sintok, and Kedah Malaysia.
Among the PhD awardees are Olatokun Ganiyat, Raji Olajide, Aliyu Sheu, Babatunde Adebola, Kabiru Kura, Oluwatoyin Popoola, Mohammed Sadiq, Abubakar Nura and Salman Ramat.
