Thai police on Tuesday deported a Czech national believed to be infected with HIV and wanted by Interpol for sex-related crimes, an official at the country’s main airport confirmed.
Zdenek Pfeifer was captured in Phuket after Thai police launched a manhunt.
Immigration Bureau Commander Nattorn Prohsunthorn told newsmen at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport that Thai authorities had decided to deport Pfeifer back to the Czech Republic, charging him with overstaying his Thai visa.
“Pfeifer, named in a red notice issued by Interpol, is also wanted by Czech police for sex offences with a minor in the Czech Republic,’’ Thai police said.
It is unclear how many people the 49-year-old man had sexual intercourse with in Thailand.
However, local media reported he had passed on his infection to several male and female partners in the northern city of Chiang Mai and nearby provinces, before moving to Phuket.
Nattorn said Thai police had not yet received complaints against Pfeifer about alleged sex offences. (dpa/NAN)
