A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Professor Cyril Ndifon, to five years imprisonment over sexual harassment.
Justice James Omotosho on Monday held that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had proved the allegations of sex-for-marks and cybercrime against Prof Ndifon.
The judge, however, discharged and acquitted defence lawyer, Samuel Anyanwu, who was accused of attempting to pervert the cause of justice.
The ICPC alleged that between May and September 2023, Ndifon, while being employed by UNICAL as Dean of the Faculty of Law, caused one Miss TKJ (not real name), a diploma student of the university, to send pornographic, indecent and obscene photographs of herself to him through his mobile telephone number: 08037066222 vide WhatsApp chats.
Ndifon admitted that he met TKJ through her uncle in the UK, who informed him that she had paid someone in the vice chancellor’s office the sum of N100,000 to help her secure admission into the faculty of law in the university, but the person failed.
Ndifon said he has three phones and the iPhone he uses is his main line, not the Oppo phone where the photographs and images were found, adding what he used to chat with the star witness (TKJ), using his main line.
Anyanwu was accused of calling to warn the star witness, TKJ, against testifying against his client, the Dean.
