Speaking to journalists at the occasion of the Midterm Dissemination Gates Maternal and Neonatal Health Care in Gombe, the Project Director of the Society for Family Health, Fatima Mohammed, said the Society for Family Health between December 2009 and April 2011, conducted a maternal and neonatal health learning project in Gombe State, North east Nigeria with the ultimate objective of scaling up and expanding all successful interventions from the learning phase and ultimately supporting public sector health facilities in the delivery of selected technical interventions.
She said at the conclusion of the learning phase of the project, a second phase commenced in 2012 (to run until 2016).
“These activities include working with Traditional Birth Attendants and FOMWAN volunteers, use of a Call Centre, and running an Emergency Transport Scheme will ensure the long term sustainability of improved maternal and neonatal care in Gombe and throughout the North east Region,” she said.
According to her the dissemination of project activities is happening midway into the project to share with stakeholders the achievements and lessons learnt from the two years of intervention (2012 – 2014). In addition the dissemination is an opportunity to explore and discuss sustainability of the project and achievements in Gombe and expansion to Adamawa.
