The acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr Habiba Lawal has called on women and youths to take advantage of the opportunities offered in the arts and craft industry to get themselves productively engaged.

She stated this on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the African Arts and Craft Expo (AFAC) held in Abuja. She said culture holds prospects for self-employment, income generation and economic empowerment for the vast majority of people, especially in the rural areas.

She reiterated that it was pertinent that natural resources are harnessed for empowering women, youths and other vulnerable members in the society like the physically challenged.

She therefore urged exhibitors and also women entrepreneurs in the sector to learn from lessons at the expo to develop their creative skills for improvement.

In his remarks, the Director-General National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe pleaded with those in attendance to key into the cultural sector so that “Nigeria’s story can change’.

He said the expo is an avenue for African countries to network and also to showcase Nigeria’s best cultural products.
