The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Surv. Ebisintei Awudu, has called for the establishment of a National Hydrographic Office to see to the development of hydrography in all its ramifications.
Surv. Awudu, made the call while delivering a paper at the 2016 World Hydrographic Day, with the theme `Hydrography – the key to well managed seas and waterways.’
He noted that as one of the specialized aspects of surveying, giving autonomy to such an office will empower it to place adequate checks on the nation’s territorial waters.
Also speaking, the President, Nigeria Institution of Surveyors, Surv. Oyegbola Akinloye, called for appropriate regulations to guide the practice of hydrography in the nation, adding that there should be increased collaboration between hydrographers in the military and private sectors.
