The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has redeployed a number of its state coordinators and area officers.
It said the move was aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and improving service delivery across its member states.
Managing Director of the Commission, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, announced the redeployments during the opening of the 2026 First and Second Quarters Management Consultative meeting in Ilorin, on Tuesday.
The exercise forms part of broader administrative reforms to reposition the intervention agency.
Yelwa asked the affected officers to approach their new assignments with renewed commitment, innovation and a strong sense of responsibility to advance the Commission’s mandate.
“As part of our efforts to improve operational efficiency, Management also approved the redeployment of some State Coordinators and Area Officers across our operational states. I congratulate all affected officers and encourage them to approach their new assignments with renewed commitment, innovation and a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.
The redeployment was accompanied by changes in the Commission’s leadership structure, including the appointment of an Assistant Director (Legal) as Acting Director of Legal Services to strengthen legal advisory, regulatory compliance and contractual processes.
Yelwa also announced the appointment of the Commission’s most senior Chief Agricultural Officer as Acting Director of Community and Rural Development following the redeployment of the former acting director to Taraba State as State Coordinator.
He urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, professionalism and exemplary service.
The Managing Director said the Commission had also concluded the staff promotion exercise approved by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, with promotion letters already being distributed to successful officers.
Yelwa disclosed that management had equally strengthened project planning, monitoring and supervision while expanding the role of state coordinators and area officers in project implementation and stakeholder engagement to ensure interventions are driven by the needs of beneficiary communities.
He disclosed that N-HYPPADEC had already intensified its annual flood preparedness campaign through early sensitisation programmes in flood-prone communities, working with state governments, traditional institutions and the media to educate residents on impending risks and encourage relocation from vulnerable areas before the peak of the rainy season.
On financial management, Yelwa directed all state coordinators and area officers to obtain prior approval before incurring expenditure or embarking on official movements that would attract Duty Tour Allowance or related claims.
“No expenditure should be incurred without the prior approval of the Managing Director. Likewise, official movements within your respective states and areas of operation that will attract Duty Tour Allowance or any related claims must receive the prior approval of the Managing Director,” he said.
The Managing Director noted that staff welfare remained a priority, revealing that the Commission had fully paid the outstanding balance of housing allowance for existing staff and partially settled statutory allowances for newly recruited employees despite financial limitations.
He, however, maintained that welfare would be matched with discipline, saying the Commission would continue to uphold the Federal Government’s “No Work, No Pay” policy and other extant public service rules.
Yelwa further disclosed that N-HYPPADEC had expanded its agricultural empowerment programme by distributing power tillers to beneficiary communities in Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Kebbi, Kaduna and Taraba states.
He said plans are underway to procure additional farm implements, including planters and sprayers, to support mechanised farming and improve food production.
The consultative meeting, the first since August 2025, brought together directors, heads of units, state coordinators and area officers to review the Commission’s performance.
