Mansoor
I am really sorry about what happened to you. May God give you the strength to carry on. About your (ex) girlfriend, she is lost to you for good and I am sure you know that. She has simply shown that she is not capable of standing by you, even if you two were married before the accident, she would have done exactly the same thing.
Your friend simply took advantage of a bad situation, the lesson there is that he was never your friend. All you need now is your God and courage to carry you on. Please erase her love from your mind and move on. I hope you have assistance from family members and friends to see you through this trial.
I really, really love him, but…
I am thirty-years-old and in love with a forty-seven-year-old man. I have been in the relationship for about twelve years now. At first I was not interested in the relationship until about five years ago when I developed strong feelings of love for him in addition to my strong desire to settle down and start a family. I was however disappointed when I realized that he was not ready to settle down.
My suspicion is that he is scared of marrying me because I am a sickler (SS genotype) and he has AS genotype. His parents are aware of my condition and are strongly opposed to his marrying me. I also suspect that he has other reasons; I think he is into relationship with girls because anytime we are together, he takes calls from women and he lightens up when he is talking to them. The fact that we are not from the same state may also be the cause of his hesitation in marrying me.
The saddest part of our relationship is that we part in anger all the time, even on the phone, we are always angry at each other. Anytime I bring up the issue of marriage, he would implore me to be patient as we would get married when the time comes and always conclude by professing his love for me as according to him ‘I am the only woman in his life.
Aunty Nana,
I urgently need your advice on what to do because at thirty years of age I am aware that time is not on my side .
Worried Baby
There are too many odds against your relationship and I do not think marriage is in the plan on your man’s side. From the little medical knowledge available to us , as a Sickler, It is also not in your interest to be married to a man that has the AS genotype. Love is said to be blind, but we need to keep clear heads when taking critical decisions. While you are not responsible for your condition (may God give you strength), you need to learn more about it so that you can handle things like love affairs better. From what I have read, it is better that you marry someone with the AA genotype, that way, you stand a chance of having children that have the AS genotype instead of SS. I join you in praying for the right man and may God make it easy for you to cope.
