The cleric, who is the chairman of the Fatwa Committees of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (SCIA) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam, gave the advice in a statement he signed and made available to Kanem Trust.

He noted that there was need for the governments and security agents to bring a lasting solution to the crisis, especially those associated with religion so as to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

The Sheikh observed that no meaningful development would be achieved when citizens engaged in conflict with one another. Describing the Boko Haram mayhem as unjustifiable, Sheikh Saleh explained that it should not any way be linked with religion.

 “Islam had never been associated with violence and always promote peaceful co-existence among followers of different faiths. We call on the people irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliations to shun conflict and adopt amicable ways of resolving any misunderstanding”, the statement advised.           

Saleh, who threw his weight behind Borno government’s resolve to ensure effective regulation and monitoring of Islamic preachers, said the move was necessary in order to ensure that some persons do not hide under religion to promote violence or mislead their followers.

He called for a strict implementation of the policy so that any cleric who intends to preach must be screened by the preaching board before being given license to do so.
