It is surprising that an Abuja-based journalist failed to notice this hurricane that has all the symptoms of a political Tsunami which promises to blow away those in the corridors of power and who have no political home-base or anything to show to the people of Katsina State.

Despite the attempt by Machika in the article to be fair and balanced, whatever he said of Governor Shema in the positive, he qualified it. But generally, the reader cannot miss the intended objective of the article: to continue to show that the so-called Abuja politicians are still bent on their agenda to scuttle Governor Shema’s election in 2011. This is despite the unfolding political scenario that seeks to ostracize and strip them of whatever influence they may have had in the past. The need for accountability, probity and due process also seems to stare them in the face.

The reference by the writer that, in 2011, Governor Shema will have to handle his political campaign all by himself is just by the way. He did the same in 2007 without the assistance of the so-called Abuja politicians. None of them did anything or showed up anywhere during the campaigns that got Governor Shema elected into office. Besides, the leader of them all assigned each of them responsibilities. While Governor Shema executed his own part of the bargain, the so-called Abuja politicians reneged.     

Following the election, Governor Shema has not only continued to better the lots of his people, he is also on record as one of those who contributed to the stabilization of the polity at the hour of need. As a tried and tested lawyer, Governor Shema has been credited with playing a prominent role in how the Governors’ Forum, in conjunction with the leaders of the National Assembly, charted a political road-map through the instrumentality of the Senate that eventually mandated Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, to act as President in the absence of the incumbent. At home, developments in the education sector, roads, housing and aviation have changed the life of the ordinary people in Katsina State who forever remain grateful to Shema’s focused leadership.

The writer ought to have realised that nothing more than what the Katsina State Governor has tangibly achieved in office would give him a second term. Without saying, it certainly does not matter what the co-called Abuja politicians who are now desperately in search of political survival say or do.
