The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has commissioned the two new aircraft purchased by the government of Cross River State.
The two aircraft increases the fleet of the Cally Air airline to four aircraft. The first two are still being operated by Aero Contractors while the current two will be managed by Value Jet.
Commissioning the new aircraft at Margaret Ekpo International Airport Calabar, the Vice President who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commended the state government for the feat.
Shettima also commissioned the newly refurbished State Library Complex housing the hub and the federal government’s state-of-the-art Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Hub for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) also in Calabar.
Speaking, Governor Bassey Otu said he was consolidating on the efforts and achievements of his three predecessors – Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke and Ben Ayade.
“Donald Duke came with a tourism mentality, Senator Imoke focused on rural development while Ayade looked at industries.
“It was Ayade that initiated the aviation business. He actually purchased the first two aircraft.
“I am now building on their efforts. With these two new aircraft, we’re poised to bolster the tourism potentials of the state.
“We’ll add two more aircraft before long to dominate the Gulf of Guinea air route.”
