The federal government’s delegation at the UN Food Systems Summit in Rome, Italy has hosted a high-level side event to promote Nigeria’s Innovative Food Financing model.
A communiqué signed by Mrs Vera Onyeaka-Onyilo, Knowledge Management and Communications Advisor, IFAD-VCDP Nigeria, said the high-level side event was organized with assistance from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Vice President Kashim Shettima while chairing a panel at the Nigeria high level event on Innovative Finance for Food Systems Transformation – Case study of Nigeria’s Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) and Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Programs (SAPZ) said Agricultural hubs would be created throughout the nation through the SAPZ and VCDP to increase production and value-added processing.
The vice president emphasised that in line with the Nigeria Food Systems Transformation Pathways, the federal government would continue to advance the mobilization of innovative financing to address the key challenges to food systems priorities.

Shettima said Nigeria beckoned on key national and international stakeholders to be mobilised in order to create win-win partnerships that would help to catalyze transformative and significant funding for the development of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems in the country as well as at the regional and global levels.
The IFAD President, Mr Alvaro Lario, stated in his speech that in order to encourage private investment, governments and development organisations must set an example with their own investments.
Presidents of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr Muhammad Al Jasser, and the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, who was represented by Mrs Hassatou N’Sele, Vice-President AfDB, reaffirmed their commitment to aiding Nigeria in realizing its aspirations for development and carrying out its upcoming national development plans.
