Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to deliver special remarks at the second edition of the House of Representatives ‘Open Week’  scheduled to hold from July 8.

Shettima, who also chairs the National Council on Nutrition, will speak during the session focused on agriculture, food security, and nutrition – one of the major thematic areas of this year’s programme.

His participation, organisers say, underscores the importance the federal government places on legislative collaboration in addressing national priorities.

Spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the open week is part of efforts to promote legislative transparency, citizen engagement, and institutional accountability at the midterm of the 10th Assembly’s tenure.

He said the event would feature high-level engagements, including an interactive session and the formal launch of the House Legislative Scorecard, a document capturing the Assembly’s achievements in lawmaking, oversight, and reforms over the past two years.

He said the opening ceremony will feature remarks by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and a keynote address by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, with participation from both local and international stakeholders.

According to Rotimi, the three-day event will also spotlight discussions around women’s political inclusion, youth participation in governance, the constitutional role of traditional rulers, and economic reforms, reflecting key pillars of the House’s Legislative Agenda.

He said participants will include representatives of civil society organisations, professional bodies, student groups, traditional rulers, development partners, and the private sector.
