Nigerian visual artists, Shonibare Olatunbosun, Okwoju El-Dragg Leonard, Damola Adepoju, Bimbo Adenuga, Abdulrazaq Ahmed Akibu, Dimeji Alara, Odimba Kelechi, Seye Morakinyo, Femi Koyewole, Stanley Anyanwu and ace photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi have donated art works to the Empower54 foundation.
The gesture was part of the event marking the campaign of the ‘Rise Above Terror’ through a diplomatic cocktail organized by the management of Sheraton hotel and Empower54 which held at the Ladi Kwali hall of the hotel in Abuja.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Grand Patron of Empower 54, who expressed happiness for being the patron of Empower54.
In a pre-recorded video shown at the event, he said: “I am proud to be the patron of Empower54, which rehabilitates internally displaced women and children in Nigeria by supporting the women to become self-sufficient and establishing schools for their children. Princess Modupe Ozolua and her Empower54 are enabling survivors of terrorism to regain independence and rekindle their faith in humanity. I therefore wholeheartedly support their Rise Above Terror campaign, and ask you to do same.”
Modupe Ozolua, organizer of the event thanked artists and stakeholders for their contribution to the foundation and prayed that the alliance would be the beginning of long lasting relationships as we all unite to rise above terror.
The works expressed in different media from mixed media, oil on canvas, drawing iphone to photography were titled, ‘The Sirrenes,’ ‘Rise II,’ and ‘Just for fun,’ among others, are being auctioned and the funds raised channelled to support children living in IDP camps in north eastern Nigeria.
