Adepoju expressed the optimism while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the club’s preparations for the new season.

 

He said he had been well equipped for the challenge of uplifting the Ibadan giants through enriched knowledge and enhanced government support.

“Moving to the highest position in the Nigerian Premier League (NPL) is our target now, and we are ready to do it with the way we have prepared for the new season.’’

Shooting Stars FC, also known as 3SC, finished 15th in the last Premier League season which ended in November 2011.

The former Super Eagles midfielder said capacity-building “is very essential to development.’’

“The knowledge I have gained from our performance last season, as well as the recent knowledge from a management programme, have equipped me for the challenges ahead of us this new season.’’

Adepoju participated in the Certificate Programme and Management Development which ended in Abuja on Dec. 15, 2011.

He was one of the 24 graduates from the programme sponsored by SuperSport and presented by Wits Business School of South Africa and University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

“With the kind of knowledge I acquired there, Shooting stars will not remain the same again.

“Though, I have been with the team for the past four years as an administrator, this programme really enriched me the more.

“I will, therefore, put into practice what I have learnt when the new Premier League season begins on Saturday.’’

The former Eagles midfielder said that the programme was timely for him as it would help in improving the team’s management.

“Since the focus of the team is to improve in the new season, the programme came at the right time and I will set out to change Shooting Stars for the better.’’

Adepoju, however, added that government support would also play its role in Shooting Stars’ performance in the new season.

“Government as the club’s owner has always been playing its role. But this time around, we have had that support enhanced.

“This will no doubt help us a lot, and with the support of our fans all over, I want to promise that Shooting Stars will be better in the new season.’’
