The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has identified the shortage of semi-skilled labour as one of the most pressing issues having serious implications for both business and the economy.

National President of NACCIMA Ide J.C. Udeagbala, who spoke at the opening of the 35th edition of the Lagos International Trade Fair holding at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium (TBS) in Lagos at the weekend, lamented that it is becoming difficult to find semi-skilled workforce like electricians, plumbers, welders, fitters, machinists, bricklayers and plasterers among others.

“We at NACCIMA applaud the federal government for realizing the need to partner with the Organized Private Sector (OPS) to find a lasting solution as contained in Executive Order 5.”

He further implored the government to put appropriate machinery in place to actualize the development of a semi-skilled workforce.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State in his remark assured that his administration will continue to work assiduously towards enthroning a business-friendly environment with a view to facilitating profitable returns on investment in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Dr. Lola Akande, said the annual trade fair has impacted greatly on the economy through the opportunities it has continued to provide to individuals and corporate organisations to showcase their products and services to a large population of people within the arena.
