Showemimo is one of the two players to have been named in the NPL Team of the Week twice after back-to-back mention in matchday two and three of the Premier League award panel.

The 22-year-old centre-back spoke to SuperSport.com about his aim to continue to put in eye-catching performance for Kano Pillars to become the first player to win the monthly gong for the 2010/2011 season.

“I know have the ability to win it and that is what I hope for. I am happy that I have been named twice in the Team of the Week, which is good for me. This will only make me work hard to win the monthly award,” he said.

The former Gateway Football Club player is also happy that he has been given a mention as a defender as against the usual concentration on strikers.

“It is good that defenders are now being recognized in the league and I believe that will encourage me and other defenders a lot,” he said.
