Malam Magawata began his terminal leave in April 2012, following the completion of his five-year tenure as DG of the NTA.
Sunday Trust gathered from the presidency that All-Well Brown, who hails from Bayelsa State, has been tipped for the position, and it is most likely that she would, in the next few months, quit her job at the LNG to take charge of an organization where she worked for almost three decades.
During his tenure, a source close to Malam Magawata according to the outgoing DG saw to the upgrading of broadcast facilities of the NTA, thereby making transmission easier. He is credited with bringing on stream Startimes cable television, which is meant to compete with the DSTV. Malam Magawata’s tenure, according to his aide, saw to an improved welfare package for the staff of the organization.
If the appointment of All-Well Brown is confirmed by the Presidency, she would be resuming at the NTA with a wealth of experience. According to her biodata on the LNG website, “Siene Allwell-Brown is journalist, broadcaster and lawyer. As GM External Relations, she oversees the Community Relations, Government Relations and Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Departments, making her the custodian of the company’s brand, image and reputation.
“A well known face and voice on Nigerian television from mid 70’s to the mid 90’s, Siene spent over two decades as a network radio and television broadcaster, rising to the position of General Manager, Rivers State Television in 1996, before leaving for a short stint in legal practice in 1996. She was employed by Nigeria LNG Limited as its pioneer General Manager, External Relations in October 2000. Siene had her early education in the then Eastern Nigeria in Aba and her secondary education at A C M Girls’ School Elelenwa, Port Harcourt.
“She joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) straight after school in 1973 as continuity announcer and moved on to NBC-TV, now the NTA in 1976 as a network newscaster and a reporter on the judicial desk. She took time off for her ‘A’ Levels in 1979 at Kilburn Polytechnic, London followed by a degree in law from the Middlesex University, London in 1984. She returned to the Nigerian Law School and was called to the bar in 1985. She is a Justice of the Peace and a titled citizen of Grand Bonny Kingdom.”
