The Sightsavers, in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), has provided training to 14 adolescent girls with special needs in Kaduna State, equipping them with essential skills for entrepreneurship.
The girls underwent comprehensive training in various areas such as knitting, baking and sewing, with the aim of fostering self-reliance in the future.
During the graduation ceremony held at the ITF Kaduna Area office, Dr. Selben Penzin, Senior Programme Manager at Sightsavers, emphasized the importance of the partnership with ITF in empowering the girls.
Dr Penzin said the training, spanning four months, was designed to complement their formal education, ensuring they acquire both skills and knowledge simultaneously.

Starter packs will be provided to the beneficiaries to facilitate the application of their newly acquired skills, he said, and urged their parents to ensure that the resources are utilized by the girls themselves.
Daniel Jamgbadi, Assistant Director of Training at Kaduna ITF Area office, emphasized the capabilities inherent in the girls’ disabilities and encouraged parents to support them in their entrepreneurial endeavours.
He praised the collaborative effort between Sightsavers and ITF, emphasizing the impact of skill development in reducing societal challenges.
The Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna Ministry of Health, Dr Aisha Abubakar Sadiq, commended Sightsavers for their commitment to empowering girls with special needs.
