In his welcome address, Initiator of the Awards, Dahiru Mohammed explained that the event was mainly centred on capacity building of key players of the Hausa Film industry. “It is set to re-brand and harness the untapped potentials inherent in the rich Nigerian cultural heritage through entertainment with special focus on the northern cultural values, tourism and traditions.”

It was a night for the crème de la crème of Kannywood as the hall was filled to the brim with Hausa movies lovers mixing freely with the stars. With guests and celebrities who travelled in from different Northern States, Ali Nuhu and Lawal Ahmed thrilled guests with a spectacular performance of popular Hausa music tunes as the crowd karaoked along.

Amongst many others, awards were then given to Ali Nuhu as Best Hero; Daudu Galadachi for life achievement; Amina Garba as Best actress in supporting role for ‘Mela’; Murja Baba for best female play back singer in ‘Aikatau’ and Sadi Sidi Sharifai as best male playback singer in ‘Tumbin Giwa’.
