SIM Nigeria Limited, at the weekend, unveiled its “White Friday” sales festival to give massive discounts to customers to purchase home and electronic appliances.
The national retail sales manager of the firm, Kshitij Kumar, said the discounted sales offer was to encourage people to patronise the brands.
He said, “We have seen the showroom, they are visiting the showroom, but because of the economy, they are not able to afford the electronics.
“People want to buy but they can’t afford, so we are giving you one day the opportunity to come and buy, which is a White Friday. We are going to celebrate as a sales celebration.”
The executive director, corporate services, Mr Fab Uzor, said the White Friday promo slated to hold on Friday, February 25, was the first of its kind in Nigeria.
He explained that some items in the promo had up to 80 per cent discount, while other discounts ranged from 10 to 50 per cent.
He said, “We decided to coin White Friday, instead of making it negative, to make it positive in our context, looking at what happened in this period generally in Nigeria. Most of the time we think global and act local.
“Looking at the Nigerian environment, people just celebrated the yuletide, spent money, came back in January; some were saddled with the responsibility of paying school fees, a lot who are not able to have a roof over their heads are paying house rent.
“Meanwhile, the desire to own some of these electronics and home appliances, but because of limp pocket, they are not able to do it.
“And we have said February is the month to support our numerous prospective customers, just one day to enable them to buy things they need but cannot afford because of the economic circumstances of the country.”
