The Simba Group, distributors of TVS King tricycles in Nigeria, has conducted a fresh round of road safety training for women riders as part of its Queen Riders Training Programme.

The initiative, which is being run in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), trains women riders on safe riding, road safety awareness, traffic laws, and basic maintenance of tricycles.

The Simba Group explained that the Queen Riders Programme was its flagship women’s empowerment initiative borne out of the group’s desire to train women from under-represented backgrounds.

The aim, Simba stated, “Is for them to have a chance to participate in this sector – a major employer in the country – and increase their household income.”

Simba Training School which also conducts advanced mechanic courses has provided training to these riders free of cost.

After the women are trained and certified, they are connected with various tricycle fleet owners and microfinance institutions so that they have better chances of accessing micro-entrepreneurship opportunities.
