The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of Kano State over the tragic fire incident at Singer Market, which reportedly claimed lives and destroyed goods worth billions of naira.
In a statement signed by its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Gambo Umar, the foundation described the incident as a painful loss not only to the affected traders and families but also to the state’s commercial community.
“The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation expresses its deepest sympathy to the Government and people of Kano State following the tragic fire at Singer Market, which claimed lives and destroyed properties and goods worth billions of naira,” the statement read.
The foundation said it shared in the grief of families who lost loved ones and traders whose sources of livelihood were disrupted by the inferno.

“We share in the grief of affected families, traders, and all whose livelihoods have been disrupted,” it stated, praying for divine comfort for the bereaved and speedy recovery for those affected.
The foundation also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what it described as swift leadership in the aftermath of the disaster.
“The Foundation commends the swift response and leadership of the Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside the tireless efforts of emergency responders who managed the crisis under challenging circumstances,” the statement added.
While extending its condolences, the foundation stressed the urgent need for stronger preventive and emergency response measures in markets and other public facilities across the state.
It called for “regular inspections, functional firefighting and detection systems, rapid-response protocols, and market layouts that allow unobstructed access for emergency services to minimise future risks.”
According to the foundation, proactive safety strategies are critical to preventing a recurrence of such devastating incidents, particularly in densely populated commercial hubs.
“We pray for comfort for the bereaved, speedy recovery for those affected, and full restoration of livelihoods,” the statement further said, assuring that the foundation remains in “steadfast solidarity with the Government and people of Kano State during this difficult time.”
The fire incident at Singer Market has raised renewed concerns about safety standards in major markets, as traders continue to count their losses and authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
