The death toll from the Afriland Towers fire in Lagos has risen to 10 following confirmation by United Capital Plc that six of its employees lost their lives in the incident.

The company, in a statement on Thursday, described the deceased staff as “integral members of its family,” noting that their passing has left an “immeasurable void.”

“It is with profound grief that the Management and Staff of United Capital Plc announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers on Tuesday, September 16, 2025,” the statement read.

The blaze, which reportedly began in the inverter room located in the basement of the six-storey building, spread quickly and claimed lives despite emergency response efforts.

On Wednesday, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) confirmed that four of its staff members also died in the incident.

United Capital said preparations are underway for a memorial service to honour the deceased, adding that the firm will provide full support to their families and loved ones. The company also expressed gratitude to emergency services and responders for their efforts.
