Six varsities get research centres
Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN has built and donated research centres in six universities as well as donated accounting and allied disciplines books to over 30 tertiary institution in the country, its President Alhaji Shehu Usman Ladan has disclosed.
He stated this Monday during the ground-breaking ceremony of a research centre to be built at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Ladan noted the universities to include Nasarawa State University, Kogi state University, University of Jos, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka.
“We are convinced that the advancement of the science of accountancy
can be better achieved through research and availability of relevant
books,” he stated.
On the proposed UDUS research centre, he said the choice of the university was borne mainly by the university’s contributions to educational development, especially accountancy education.
He assured that the centre would be completed in 16 weeks from the date the contractor takes over possession of the site and that it would be fully furnished by the association when completed.
According to him, the research centre would mark the commencement of a
cordial relationship between the association and the university.
Vice Chancellor, UDUS Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru said the research centre to be constructed in the university would be known as ‘Leadership, Accounting Development and Networking(LADAN) centre.
He assured that the investment and expectations on the project would
be guarded and protected.
The VC who was represented by the DVC(Academic) Professor AG Yahya said at the completion of the project, a sustainability plan would be put in place to ensure maintenance of the centre.
“We shall together with ANAN work in ensuring that the key objective of the centre when completed would be to serve as a focal point in research and development in the noble accounting profession and especially to serve the immediate needs of our catchment area states,” he stated.
