SLU female students win Prof Audi’s prize

Eleven female undergraduates drawn from 15 programmes offered in the three faculties of Sule Lamido University (SLU), Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State have won the Professor Jummai Adama M. Audi’s prize for the Best Female Final Year Students.
They were given N50,000 each at a ceremony held on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the university’s campus.
While giving the background of the award, the chairman, Committee on Prizes and Awards who was also the university’s librarian, Dr. Abdulkadir Ahmed Idris, disclosed that it was meant for female undergraduates to encourage them to excel in their pursuit of academic excellence. He added that the award was aimed at assisting students in writing their final year project.
In his address, the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Lawan Sani Taura, emphasised that women, as mothers, are so important in human life and development and must be given special attention.
Taura, who was represented by the deputy vice-chancellor, Dr. Umar Saje, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to spend the money for the purpose it was meant.
In her remarks, the acting dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Umma Abdulwahid, described Professor Audi as an epitome of kindness, maturity, humility and a philanthropist who excelled in assisting girls to achieve their educational goals.
A Professor of Law from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Audi was described as a mentor who trained many lawyers most of whom have attained the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) status.
The awardees from the Faculty of Education were A’isha Usman, B.A. (ED.) English; Rukayya Muhammad Umar, B.Sc. (ED.) Biology; Khadija Sani Sa’ad, B.Sc. (ED.) Chemistry; and Amina Muhammad Tanimu, B.Sc. (ED.) Physics with CGPA of 3.65, 3.57, 3.14 and 4.15 respectively.
The Faculty of Humanities had Jamila Nasiru, B.A. Arabic; A’isha Saleh Abdullahi, B.A. English; A’isha Yusuf Dahir, B.A. Hausa; Hauwa Muhammad Makki, B.A. History; and Firdausi Kasim Bawada, B.A. Islamic Studies with the CGPA of 3.75, 3.81, 3.97, 3.58 and 4.03 respectively.
The beneficiaries from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences were Maryam Adam Babangida, B.Sc. Biology and Zinatu Mahadi, B.Sc. Chemistry with a CGPA of 4.64 and 4.12.
Professor Jummai Audi is an external member of SLU Governing Council from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria currently serving with the National Law Reform Commission.
