Smart tech will reshape facilities management sector – Experts

A new wave of smart technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and predictive analytics will reshape the facilities management sector, some industry experts have submitted.

 They spoke at the just concluded Association of Facilities Management Practitioners Nigeria (AFMPN) 2025 National Conference held at University of Lagos. 

 The conference with the theme “Future Proofing Facilities: Harnessing Technology for Smart Cities and Workspaces,” attracted about 500 participants including industry experts and leaders who attended both physically and virtually.

In his address, National President of AFMPN, Dr. Olumide Aina, said the conference offered professionals opportunities to engage with fellow professionals on the shared  commitment to shaping the future of facilities management. 

 Aina emphasized the need to embrace cutting-edge solutions for facility management and smart city development.

 The President noted that innovative technologies and products are shaping the future of the industry and told professionals that they must not be left behind.

In his paper titled “From Data to Decisions: Leveraging Analytics To Transform Facilities Management,” Osemudiamen Owobu emphasized that data is the new backbone of facilities management. 

According to him, by Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) professionals can cut costs, boost efficiency, and keep clients satisfied.
