Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, Lagos, have intercepted 39,000 litres of petrol from suspected smugglers, valued at over N12.5million.

The petrol was about being ferried into Benin Republic by the waterways in Badagry by some criminal gangs.

The comptroller of the command, Bello Mohammed Jibo, who confirmed the operation, said the product was intercepted during an offensive patrol against the smuggling of petroleum product along the creeks within the Seme and Badagry axis by his officers and men.

Jibo said the arrest was made on April 6 and that the product was packaged in sacks. 

He said findings revealed that about 1,300 jerry-cans, 30 litres each, totalling 39,000 litres, were discovered.

He attributed the successes recorded to consistency on the part of the management of the NCS in providing the needed logistics, adequate working tools, support, and ensuring that hardworking officers are recognised and rewarded, especially through promotions.
