Speaking at the event, the National President of SNA, Mr.Uwa Usen charged students in secondary schools to develop and pursue a passion in visual arts, saying it is a life long skill that will add value to their lives.

On his part, chairman of the Abuja chapter, Mr. Eze Obizue said it is in line with the vision of inspiring the creative spirit in the young ones that they organised the competition with little sponsorship, adding that the participants exhibited great enthusiasm.

He urged parents to encourage their children to explore arts and crafts as it is a veritable alternative to relying on white collar jobs.

Highlights of the event included presentation of prizes to some students in the senior and junior secondary schools as well as deserving pupils in primary schools. Daniel Iheanatu of GSS Asokoro and Oneze Iguchukwu of GSS Jikwoi came first in the senior and junior secondary schools respectively while Joshua Idoku of Santus Lumen Christi school, Area One and Divine Abraham of Redeemers School, Karu claimed first prize in the primary six and four categories respectively.

Also Six individuals, including the Director General, National Gallery of Arts, Abdullahi Muku, immediate past chairman of SNA Abuja, Suleman Mohammed and George Ufot Director of culture at the ministry of Culture and tourism among others were presented with awards of excellence for their contributions to the development of arts in the country.

The event also featured Gbagyi cultural dances from students of secondary schools in Abuja.
