In celebration of the International Women’s Day, an exhibition ‘Sobriety and Elegance’ will open tomorrow, Monday March 6, with works of one professional artist, Millicent Osumuo-Onuegbu along with three university and three secondary school students.
The event which will hold at the foyer of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja will feature the works of Naomi Oladipo (Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ife), Blessing Ogbonda (Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu) and Damilola Omola (Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho). 
Aduvie International School, Capital Science Academy, Government Secondary School, Garki will each have one student showcasing their works at the exhibition.
Osumuo-Onuegbu who originally planned for a solo exhibition explained that, she decided to include younger female artists, as a way to inspire them and reflect more representations of women and the issues surrounding them as perceived from different generations of artists.
She said: “The intention is to encourage us to use our innate qualities to build ourselves first, and then the people with whom we come in contact and our society.
She said in her bid to lead by example she invited three young and upcoming artists to be part of this exhibition. “My hope is that this will open up more possibilities for them and encourage them to work at improving their skills knowing that myriad opportunities exist in the art arena.”
The artists added that: “The hope is that with an earlier start they can hone their skills and improve themselves to become more productive citizens and also be able to support themselves and their families.”
Osuomo hopes that the works to be showcased will encourage future artists, especially younger women who may wish to pursue a career in the field.
“On this International Women’s Day, let us work together to do something concrete for our sisters and daughters, our mothers and aunts and nieces,” she added.
