Professor Efere who is the current chairman of the Academic Board of West Africa College of Housing in Ghana explained that social housing remains the best option, considering the low income status of many Nigerians.
“Social housing means ‘the provision of subsidised housing for people on low income. My frequent visits to Nigeria, particularly Abuja, enabled me to better appreciate the acute shortage of social housing in the country. During this period, I encountered many people who would lament about their plight in struggling to live and work in Abuja, to the extent that many, who work in the city, live in neighbouring states and commute to work every day, because of the high costs of rent,’’ he said.
