The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State have engaged in a war of words over the performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu two years into his tenure. 

PDP state chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, while addressing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, criticised the APC-led administration for failing to meet the expectations of the people. 

“Since we left office, governance in Sokoto has deteriorated. Businesses are being demolished instead of supported, jobs are disappearing and insecurity and the high cost of living persist,” Goronyo said. 

He accused the government of poor financial management and failing to deliver development to the grassroots.

Responding, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, dismissed the allegations as “laughable” and politically motivated, saying the PDP was still recovering from its 2023 election defeat. 

“It is amusing to hear such accusations from a party that was overwhelmingly rejected by the people due to its poor governance,” he said. 

Achida defended Governor Aliyu’s performance, describing him as a “source of pride” to the APC.

He challenged the PDP to account for its eight years in office, claiming it had “little or nothing to show” in terms of tangible development.
