The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved N532.6 million for the establishment of an out-of-school children centre as part of efforts to expand access to basic education and curb the rising number of out-of-school children.
The approval was among several key decisions taken at the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Thursday.
Briefing journalists, Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Maishanu, said the council also approved N424 million for the renovation of Turaki Basic School, alongside N336.5 million for the refurbishment of the Vice Chancellor’s residence and staff quarters at Sokoto State University.
He added that N179.3 million was approved to upgrade the College of Basic and Remedial Studies clinic to a Primary Healthcare Centre to serve students and nearby communities.
In the health sector, Commissioner for Information, Bello Sambo Danchadi, disclosed that N221.9 million was approved for the completion of the Wamakko General Hospital project, originally initiated in 2013. He noted that the government is also rehabilitating 22 general hospitals across the state.
The council further approved N78.3 million for the renovation of six Mitsubishi Canter vehicles.
On religious infrastructure, N144.5 million was approved for the renovation of Shuni Juma’at Mosque, while N69.8 million will fund the construction of a mosque at the NSCDC headquarters.
