About 30,000 market women and artisan groups in Sokoto are to benefit from the Government Enterprise and Development Programme (GEEP) in Sokoto State.

The Director General of Sokoto Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SOSMEDA), Hajiya Aishatu Turai Hassan, disclosed this to Daily Trust in Sokoto recently.

Hajiya Hassan said the Sokoto State Government keyed into the Federal Government’s social intervention programme so that people of the state would benefit from the initiative aimed at bolstering the economy.

Aishatu said under the programme, each beneficiary would receive N50,000 loan to be repaid in six months, and that the disbursement had commenced.

The state government, she said, was also collaborating with the Bank of Industry (BoI) to implement a N2bn matching fund for micro, small and medium scale enterprises to boost the economy of the state.

She also disclosed that the state government planned to establish an Entrepreneurship Training Centre (ETC) in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) under its Learning Initiative for Entrepreneurs (LIFE) project.
