The Sokoto State Government through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) has established 76 skills acquisition centres for out-of-school and post-primary school children in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Altine Shehu Kajiji, disclosed this to newsmen shortly after hosting the inspection team of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

He explained that the centres were targeting children who could not further their education for some reasons, particularly adolescent girls.
They would learn skills such as welding, knitting, tailoring, carpentry among others, while 40 of the centres were exclusively reserved for women.
Also speaking, the leader of the team and the National Implementation Adviser of UBEC, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Dabo, commended the state for living up to expectation.
He assured the state that it would support them to expand its skills acquisition programmes.
“Sokoto State deserved commendation for doing what is expected of it in both the intensive literacy program and non-formal learning components of the Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA,” Dabo said.
