Sunday Trust gathered that most of the results compiled at polling units in the state metropolis favoured the PDP candidate. However, the ANPP candidate, Alhaji Yusha’u expressed optimism that he would win the election.

 

Yusha’u, who voted at Ubandawaki polling unit around 1.45pm in Kebbe local government area of the state alleged that government officials were intimidating and bribing voters.

“I will like to commend INEC for adequate and timely provision of materials but so far there is a mixed feeling because the government officials are intimidation and bribing voters. These were what was responsible for voters apathy and that low turnout. The opposition disrupted election in Kuchi area of Kebbe local government,” he said.

He called on the authorities to enact law banning the display or carrying of arms, and that sensitive materials should only be released when parties official are present.

Like him, Wamakko expressed optimism that he would win the election. Speaking after casting his vote at Shiya Hakimi polling unit in Wamakko local government area of the state around 1.pm, he described the election as the best ever.

“From the report I have been receiving the voting is going on fine, the turnout and the security situation were good and at the end of the day, we are going to have one of the best transparent and fair elections. I’m always thinking positive, not negative so by the grace of God, I will make it Insha Allah,” he said.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has commended the peaceful nature with which the governorship election was conducted.

Commenting on the election, after casting his vote at the Community Day Secondary School, Tambuwal around 12.25pm, he said the orderly manner which the election held showed that the people had embraced democracy as the best form of government. He said he was confident the Saturday poll would usher in a period of peace, unity and stability to in the state.

“I want to urge whoever emerges the winner of the election to work towards building bridge of understanding among the people of Sokoto State, and I want to appeal to the eventual losers to accept defeat and prepare for future poll,” he prayed.

Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana, who voted around 1.00pm, at Maiturare primary school in Gwadabawa local government area of the state, expressed satisfaction with the level of turnout.
