The Sokoto state government has spent over  three billion Naira on  scholarship in the last three years.

Executive Chairman, Sokoto State Scholarship  Board, Altine Shehu Kajiji told  newsmen on Saturday.

He explained that  the money were spent in paying tuition fees, accommodation, feeding and pocket money to over 400 indigenous students studying abroad.

He added that part of the money was used to settle registration fees and allowances of 18,000 local students.

Kajiji who was speaking shortly after addressing 31 students who were going to Sudan to study Medicine and their parents,  assured that the students would not lack anything during their study period.

He further revealed that the state government was working towards securing scholarship for 200 students from some universities in China.

He noted that his meeting with the students and their parents was to intimate expectations during the students’ stay in Sudan and the commitment of the state to ensure their success.

Some of the parents who spoke expressed appreciation to the state government for choosing  their children for the training.

They also commended Governor Tambuwal and the Executive Chairman, for ensuring that the beneficiaries were selected on merit without any political interference.
