The Sokoto city masterplan  is to be revised, Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Alhaji Bello Gwiwa has said, adding that it had been due for review since 1983.

The commissioner said  there had been changes in the city over the years which necessitated the review of the masterplan.

According to him, the process for the review  had commenced.

Speaking on  the achievements of the Governor Aminu Tambuwal led government in the state in the last two years,  he said as part of moves to decongest the city, over 500 mechanics had been relocated to mechanic village on the eastern by-pass.

The commissioner said more would be relocated to designated sites in the Sokoto city.

Gwiwa disclosed that a committee set up by Governor Aminu Tambuwal under his chairmanship to review the process of the state government’s planned sale of its houses to civil servants on owner-occupier basis had completed its assignment.

He said the committee which was to ascertain the houses involved, assess their costs and recommend the prices and modalities for payment,  would submit its report  to the governor this week.
