The Sokoto state council of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria has complained of non patronage of indigenous consultants by the state office of the World Health Organization (WHO).
A statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu said the union observed that all the key positions that ought to be handled by indigenous consultants were deliberately given to non-indigenes by the organization.
“Out of the eight (8) consultants working with WHO Sokoto state office, only one is from the state,” the statement said.
The union however, called on the state ministry of Health to take all necessary steps to ensure this abnormality was corrected.
The chairman further said having only one consultant in the organization from the state was not fair and unacceptable.
However, one of the consultants of the organization who prepared to be anonymous because he was not authorized to talk on the matter described the allegation as “rubbish”.
“They should understand how international organizations operate before making baseless allegation,” the source said.
He said WHO was not an organization owned by Nigeria and it has its own rules and regulations which prescribe how it should employ its workers.
