The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The party announced the decision in a statement issued on Sunday by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Amb. Abdulkadir Umar Gidadawa.

According to the statement, the decision followed consultations and a consensus meeting involving party elders, stakeholders and leaders from the three senatorial zones of the state.

The party said the process was conducted under the supervision of the state caretaker committee and was aimed at strengthening unity and internal cohesion within the party.

It described Abubakar Abdullahi as an experienced administrator and grassroots mobiliser with a track record of service and commitment to the development of Sokoto State.

The PDP said his emergence reflected the party’s resolve to present a candidate it believes can unite members, win the governorship election and provide quality leadership for the state.

The party also commended other aspirants and stakeholders for placing party unity above personal interests and called on members across the state to begin mobilisation efforts at ward and local government levels.

It added that the PDP remained committed to addressing issues of security, economic growth and inclusive governance in the state.
