Sokoto probe panel: Tambuwal, ex-commissioners’ absence stall proceedings

Aminu Tambuwal

The absence of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, his deputy, Manir Dan’iya, and some members of his cabinet stalled the proceedings of the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday.

The commission was set up to probe sale and auctioning of government assets as well as land allocations during Tambuwal’s administration.

At the resumed sitting, counsel to the commission, Amanzi F. Amanzi said all attempts to personally serve the former governor and some members of his cabinet with the witness summons and memo 1 and 2 proved abortive.

Memorandum 1 is on the improper monetisation of 40 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV allocated to the former members of the state’s executive council.

While memorandum 2 is on matters affecting the Ministry of Agriculture in the state.

The counsel, however, made an oral application, seeking the order of the chairman of the commission to serve them through substituted means, citing Rules 3(3)(4)(5 a and b) of the procedure of this commission.

He also called for adjournment to enable the secretariat to effect service as ordered by the commission.

Ruling on the two applications, the chairman, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, ordered the counsel to serve them through substituted means.

He also adjourned the hearing on memo 001 till September 30th and memo 002 till October 3rd for hearing.
