Sokoto reinforces COVID-19 protocols at central market

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal

The Sokoto state government is to reinforce the COVID-19 protocols at the central market.

This followed the noticeable violation of the protocols by traders and their customers.

The Director-General, Sokoto Central Market, Maikudi Danda Dogondaji disclosed this to newsmen.

Dogon Daji observed that some of the shop owners and their customers were not adhering to the protocols despite their sustained campaigns.

“Our committee on COVID-19 will reinforce the protocols within the vicinity of the market,” he said.

He noted that enough hand washing equipment and sanitizers as well as face masks were distributed to the marketers.

Dogon Daji said the pandemic had affected their revenue generation, thus finding it difficult to pay staff’s salaries, maintain the market and make remittance to the state government.

Our reporter, who visited the market, observed a clear breach of the protocols by the marketers and their respective clients.

Meanwhile, the Director-General had cleared the air on the construction of additional shops at one of the designated parking space in the market.

According to him, this was necessitated by the activities of some unscrupulous elements, who used the site to commit atrocities.

His clarification was sequel to the complaints by some of the marketers who alleged distortion of the market’s master plan.
