Sokoto: Shagari pledges to support Wali

Shagari and Wali have been at loggerheads over the controversial gobernatorial primary poll which saw the emergence of Wali as the party’s flag bearer.
Addressing members of the party at a one-day sensitisation workshop on voter education, organised for party chairmen in the state, Shagari said losing the election was not the end of his life.
He promised to work for the success of the party at all levels, urging other members of the party, including former minister of transport Alhaji Yusuf Sulaiman and Senator Abubakar Umar Gada, who also lost at the poll, to ensure the victory of all PDP candidates.
He added that as a member of the PDP, he would not sabotage the governorship candidate of the party.
He said that he would not leave the PDP for the All Progressive Congress (APC), adding: “There is no way I will vote for Jonathan and ignore our governorship candidate. In fact, it is better for our candidate to win than the opposition.
“I am solidly behind the PDP governorship candidate and I will vote for him. So, I am calling on all our supporters to join hands together to ensure that he wins the election.”
Wali, meanwhile, told  people to campaign for Jonathan’s victory in the forthcoming polls, adding that the people of Sokoto were yearning for change.
